Secondary School

UNIS Hanoi believes in the development of the “whole” person within an environment that encourages students to become independent lifelong learners. UNIS Hanoi students have the unique opportunity to learn about themselves as individuals and their role in the greater world around them. The Secondary School's philosophy acknowledges the uniqueness of each student and challenges them to strive for personal excellence and take responsibility for their learning. Additionally, the School aims to promote a love of learning and appreciation of service in Grade 6 to 10 students.

Secondary School Curriculum and Programmes

UNIS Hanoi's curriculum is representative of the diverse community enrolled at our School. Though not able to meet the requirements of every national system, the School provides a comprehensive curriculum that reflects the School's Mission and International Baccalaureate (IB) Philosophy.

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is the framework for Grades 6 to 10, offering a broad based curriculum which provides the framework for academic challenge and life skills appropriate to this age group. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is offered to students in Grades 11 and 12. UNIS Hanoi's IB Diploma programme is designed to meet the needs for entry into university. In line with our 'whole child' philosophy, every student is encouraged to take advantage of the broad range of co-curricular and After School activities on offer.

Secondary School and Technology

An important part of the Mission of UNIS Hanoi is 'to encourage students to be independent, lifelong learners'. UNIS Hanoi believes that if students do not have the opportunity to manage and administer their own computer, the school will not be preparing them to be independent when they leave. With this in mind, the school operates the 'Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)' initiative for students in Grades 9 to 12.

BYOD programmes allow students to make choices about which device to use and how to use it to meet situational learning needs: to choose applications for completing assignments; to organize resources and to collaborate on projects and presentations. This decision-making is an important aspect of building independent, lifelong learners. To learn more, please check out the Technology page.

Secondary School and the Library

The Library has adopted a flexible learning model where teachers and librarians work collaboratively to integrate information fluency within the curriculum. The ability to think critically while engaging with, creating, and utilising information and technology regardless of the platform is central to library practice. The Library inspires a critical appreciation of literature in order to promote successful and independent learning.
